The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday cleared a panel of IPS officers, one of them will succeed SR Mardi (IPS:1986:HP), DGP, who will retire on May 31. A panel comprising three names of IPS officers was cleared for the appointment to the top post.
The names are ;
- Somesh Goyal (IPS:1984:HP) : DGP, Prisons.
- Sanjay Kandu (IPS:1989:HP) : DGP posted as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister.
- Tapan Deka (IPS:1988:HP) : Joint Director, North East, IB.
Kundu appears to be the front-runner for the top post with Deka not keen to return to Himachal. Goyal was the DGP earlier and was removed when the Gudiya rape case took place at Kotkhai in Shimla. It is the state government which will now select an officer on May 30 or 31 when Mardi retires.
