Senior IPS officer Dr Atul Verma (IPS:1991:HP) has been appointed the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Himachal Pradesh. Prior to this, Verma was serving as the Director General of CID.
Verma’s appointment orders were issued by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena on Wednesday after obtaining permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Sanjay Kundu (IPS:1988:HP), the former DGP of Himachal Pradesh, retired on Tuesday after serving 35 years in the police service.
In terms of seniority, IPS officer Atul Verma ranks fourth, following IPS officers Tapan Kumar Deka (IPS:1988:HP), S R Ojha (IAS:1989:HP), and Shyam Bhagat Negi (IAS:1991:HP). Currently, Deka and Negi are on central deputation, serving as Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Special Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat (SR), respectively, while Ojha holds the position of Director General of Prisons.
