With the appointment of Maharashtra police chief Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH) as Director General (DG) of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), everyone has started speculating about the new chief of Maharashtra Police. As per some of home ministry officers, Sanjay Pandey (IPS:1986:MH), Bipin Bihari (IPS:1987:MH), Hemant Nagrale (IPS:1987:MH), Surendra Pandey (IPS:1987:MH), D K Kanakratna (IPS:1987:MH), Param Bir Singh (IPS:1988:MH), Rashmi Shukla (IPS:1988:MH) and Rajneesh Seth (IPS:1988:MH) are the front runners for the post.
However, Bipin Bihari and Surendra Pandey are retiring in January and February respectively, and hence can’t be considered for the post. Sanjay Pandey doesn’t have a good rapport with the State government and is highly unlikely to be considered for the post.
Hemant Nagrale emerges as the top contender as he shares close links with the ruling dispensation; is also at the top of the seniority level; and is the considered most suitable officers for the post.
