The Haryana government has started the process of selecting the next chief of the state police force as the tenure of the incumbent director general of police PK Agrawal (IPS:1988:HY) ends on August 15. In order to fill the position of DGP, the state home department is seeking dossiers of IPS officers holding at least 30 years of service and at least additional director general status. The proposal will be sent to the Union Public Service Commission, which will prepare a panel of three officers, and then the state government will select the next DGP from the shortlist.
There are 11 eligible IPS officers whose names will figure in the proposal. They are;
- Manoj Yadava (IPS:1988:HY)
- Muhammad Akil (IPS:1989:HY)
- RC Mishra (IFS:1989:HY)
- Shatrujeet Kapur (IPS:1990:HY)
- Desh Raj Singh (IPS:1990:HY)
- Alok Kumar Roy (IPS:1991:HY)
- SK Jain (IPS:1991:HY)
- OP Singh (IPS:1992:HY)
- Ajay Singhal (IPS:1992:HY)
- Alok Mittal (IPS:1993:HY)
- AS Chawla (IPS:1993:HY)
Going by seniority, the top three senior IPS officers — Manoj Yadava, Muhammad Akil, and RC Mishra — could be the top contenders. However, Yadava, who remained the DGP from 2019 to 2021 and is presently on central deputation as DG (investigation), NHRC, is unlikely to return to his parent cadre.
