The issue of giving an year extension to Haryana DGP Manoj Yadava has become taking its tall as war of words seems to have erupted in the Haryana administration. The Haryana home minister Anil Vij in an official letter to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has sought for the appointment of a new DGP without any delay.

The letter was sent on the same day the Union ministry of home affairs issued a memorandum related to the extension of Yadava’s term as Haryana DGP for the next one year.

Vij has also written to additional chief secretary (home) Rajiv Arora to forward a panel of IPS officers to the CMO for selection of the next DGP. In his letter to Khattar, Vij said Yadava should be given extension only till the time next arrangement is finalized because he is an ‘incompetent officer’. Vij in his letter said that the law and order situation of the state cannot be kept under control as long as Yadava is leading the police force.

Crticising Yadava, Vij further said, “Moreover, the way he has mismanaged the farmers’ agitation, it is not in the interest of the state to continue him as the DGP. Therefore, the work on the panel sent by the ACS (Home) should be expedited so that the process of appointment of the new DGP is finalized at the earliest,” Vij in his letter said.

On deputation from the IB to his parent cadre, Yadava was appointed for a two-year term beginning February 2019. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on March 1 clarified that Yadava would continue to be the police chief.

Vij had asked the Home Secretary to send a panel of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers who had completed 30 years of service to the UPSC for the selection of a new DGP. Meanwhile, the Central government has taken serious note regarding Vij’s objection after granting extension to the DGP.
