Haryana DGP PK Agrawal (IPS:1988:HY) will retire in August. The state government has started preparing a panel for the UPSC for his successor.

Among those who could be included in the panel include are;

  1. Muhammad Akil (IPS:1989:HY)
  2. R C Mishra (IPS:191989:HY)
  3. Desh Raj Singh (IPS:1990:HY)
  4. Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor (IPS:1990:HY)

Currently, Muhammad Akil serves as Director General of Prisons, R C Mishra is in charge of the Haryana Police Housing Corporation, Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor is in charge of the Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau; and Desh Raj Singh is in charge of the Home Guards and Civil Defence Department.

Mishra will retire in June 2024, while Akil will retire in December 2025. With the longest tenure, Kapoor will retire in October 2026, while Deshraj will retire in June 2025.

According to sources, Kapoor and Akil are the front runners, though Mishra, who is senior to them, could also be considered. Currently, the government is clear about sending these four names to UPSC. The final pick would only be made once UPSC sends back the panel.

Another officer senior to them all, Manoj Yadava (IPS:1988:HY), has already served a term as DGP and is currently posted as Director General (investigations) at the National Human Rights Commission. Yadava is also in the government’s sights, even if his return is unlikely.
