The Haryana government on Monday (09.09.2024) relieved IAS officer Mandip Singh Brar (IAS:2005:HY) from the current responsibilities and placed his services at the disposal of the Chandigarh Administration. This is to enable him to take charge as Home Secretary of UT Administration for three years.

Brar was previously serving as Director General, Information, Public Relations, Languages & Culture, as well as Secretary, Information, Public Relations, Languages and Culture Department, Grievances, and Art and Cultural Affairs. He also held the charge of Mission Director, Mukhya Mantri Antyodaya Parivaar Utthaan Yojna.

On August 17, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the name of Brar for inter-cadre deputation from Haryana cadre to AGMUT for a period of three years.

Notably, the Haryana government had sent three names to UT administration for Home Secretary post; Amit Agrawal (IAS:2003:HY), Mandip Singh Brar (IAS:2005:HY) and G Ganeshan (IAS:2006:HY). The Chandigarh administration forwarded the panel to the Ministry of Home Affairs, which finalised Brar’s appointment to the post.

The post became vacant after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on May 30 approved the appointment of incumbent Home Secretary Nitin Yadav (IAS:2000:HY) as Joint Secretary in the Department of Commerce and Industry. He joined the post on June 14. His tenure of three year cut short by almost three months as his tenure was initially set to expire in September 2024.
