Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi is undergoing treatment at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali, Chandigarh. He was rushed to the hospital late Thursday night after complaining of severe chest pain. The doctors attending to him later diagnosed that Rastogi had suffered a major heart attack. As a result, an open bypass surgery was performed on him on Friday under the supervision of surgeon Dr. P.S. Mahant.
The hospital sources said that he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is likely to be shifted to a private room in a day or two. He has been advised to have bed rest for two months.
Rastogi holds a unique distinction of being the first IAS officer in the state who has gotten the opportunity to become its Chief Secretary twice.
A resident of Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh, Rastogi is a 1990 batch IAS officer and has held several important positions in the Haryana government. He was scheduled to retire on June 30, 2025—the day he celebrated his 60th birthday last year—but was given a one-year extension by the government. And hence, he is now scheduled to retire on June 30, 2026.
The Rastogi’s name also figures in the suicide case of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, and three days ago, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to investigate the suicide case, had visited the secretariat and questioned him for an hour.
