All appointments in the Haryana Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) are likely to be made any time after November 18 when the assembly sessions conclude. Despite about a month having already elapsed since the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government was sworn in the team in the chief minister’s office (CMO) is still not in place. The political and the administrative considerations are ascribed as the plausible reason.

Rajesh Khullar’s appointment as Chief Principal Secretary (CPS) to the CM is the only appointment made in the CMO. Apart from the CPS, several positions, like the principal secretary to CM (PSCM), additional principal secretary to the CM (APS to CM), media advisor, political advisor and OSDs to the CM, are lying vacant.

V Umashankar, the ACS, had been PS to the CM, but he is currently on central deputation. The CMO as well as the assembly secretariat are looking for right candidates to be appointed as PS to CM — a key post in the CMO.

As there has been no change of guard, the old guards are discharging the duties.

The appointments were expected earlier to take place in the first week of November but it is said to have been delayed on account of the assembly sessions.
