Gupteshwar Pandey (IPS:1987:BH) has been appointed as new Director General of Police (DGP) of Bihar on Thursday. He succeeds K S Dwivedi (IPS:1984:BH), who retired on Thursday. Prior to this appointment he was DG of Bihar Police Academy and Bihar Military Police.
Panday is the first DGP of the state to be chosen by new process in which eligible names were shortlisted by a UPSC board and sent to the state for final appointment.
As per the new norms in accordence with the Supreme Court guidelines, an IPS officer must have at least two years of service tenure left for being selected for the post of DGP. Panday will Superannuate on February 28, 2021
