The Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Gujarat Kuniyil Kailashnathan (Retd. IAS:1979:GJ) will finally leave the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO). His 11th extension will be his last, as he bids farewell to the state government on June 30 without opting for an extension. Since June 30 falls on a Sunday, a farewell was held today.

His 11th extension for six months was granted on December 31, 2023.

Kailashnathan retired in 2013 due to age limits but continued to serve in the Chief Minister’s Office on a contract basis for 11 years.

Despite serving under four Chief Ministers—Narendra Modi, Anandiben Patel, Vijay Rupani, and Bhupendra Patel—he was always considered the most trusted official of Prime Minister Modi. He acted as a bridge between Ahmedabad and New Delhi ever since Modi became Prime Minister in 2014.

He was Chief Principal Secretary to then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi during 2013-2014.
