Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui becomes first tribal woman Judge of Manipur HC

The Union government on Friday (13.10.2023) notified the appointment of judicial officer Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui as a Judge of the Manipur High Court.

Notably, Kabui will make history as the first woman from the scheduled tribe community to serve as a Judge in the Manipur High Court. This appointment marks a significant milestone in the diversification of the judiciary.

In January of this year, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended the names of judicial officers Aribam Guneshwar Sharma and Kabui for elevation as judges of the Manipur High Court. The High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 5 judges, is currently functioning with 3 judges, making this appointment an important step in strengthening the judiciary in Manipur.
