In a key development, senior IPS officer G Venkataraman (IPS:1994:TN), currently serving as Director General of Police (Administration), has been given additional charge as Acting Director General of Police and Head of Police Force, Tamil Nadu. The appointment order was issued on Sunday, coinciding with the retirement of Shankar Jiwal (IPS:1990:TN) on August 31, 2025. Notably, Jiwal was given an official farewell on his last working day, August 29.
Earlier, on August 28, Jiwal was appointed as the Chairman of the newly constituted Fire Commission, a position he will formally assume on Monday, September 1, 2025.
In another major appointment, Vinit Dev Wankhede (IPS:1994:TN), DGP (Headquarters), has been posted as Chairman and Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Ltd. He succeeds Shailesh Kumar Yadav (IPS:1993:TN), whose official retirement also came into effect on August 31, 2025.
