The Financial Service Institution Bureau (FSIB) is likely to conduct interviews for the Chairman’s post of the State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday, June 29, 2024. Earlier, the interviews were scheduled to be held on May 21-22 but postponed amidst general elections.
As per the convention, the chairman is appointed from the current managing directors of SBI. This time three out of four serving Managing Directors are eligible to appear for the interview. They are; CS Setty, Ashwini Kumar Tewari, and Vinay M Tonse. Its fourth MD Alok Kumar Choudhary is scheduled to retire on June 30, 2024 so he will not be eligible.
The result of the interview is expected on the same day. After FSIB recommends a name, the final decision will be made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
According to the current law, the SBI chairman can stay in the position until they turn 63. Because of this, the government extended the term of the current SBI chairman Dinesh Khara last year so he can serve until he turns 63 in August this year.
Dinesh Khara became the Chairman of SBI on October 7, 2020.
