In a significant move, the central government on Saturday (22.02.2025) appointed former RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das (Retd IAS: 1980: TN) as Principal Secretary-2 to the Prime Minister of India.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved Das’s appointment to the post, which will be co-terminus with the tenure of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The ACC order clarified that Das will serve as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister alongside Dr. P K Mishra, who holds the position of Principal Secretary-1.
