Former Home Secretary AK Bhalla appointed Manipur Governor

In a significant development, the central government on Tuesday appointed former Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla (Retd. IAS:1984:AM) as the Governor of Manipur. Bhalla’s appointment comes at a critical juncture as Manipur continues to grapple with ethnic violence that has plagued the state since May 2023.

He succeeds Lakashman Prasad Acharya, who assumed the gubernatorial office on July 31, 2024. Bhalla’s tenure as Home Secretary concluded on August 22, 2024, marking nearly half a decade of service in the role after his initial appointment in August 2019.
