Retired civil servant K Jayakumar (IAS:1978:KL) is all set to take over the Travancore Devaswom Board’s presidentship. It was finalized in a meeting between Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan and Chief Minister P Vijayan, held on Friday (November 7, 2025) night.

What made him a natural choice for this role is the abundance of his experience in managing temple administration. He has already served as Chairman of the Sabarimala High Power Committee and as its Special Commissioner way back in 2006. Besides, he also headed the Sabarimala Master Plan Committee.

Jayakumar was virtually selected from the panel of five names shortlisted for the purpose in the final round of a meeting convened at the CPM State Secretariat on Friday. Devaswom Minister Vasavan is said to have recommended Satheeshan’s name for the post but the party backed Jayakumar. The official order to this effect is likely to be made in a day or two.

The former IAS officer emphasised his prior experience at Sabarimala, promising that devotees would leave the temple satisfied and content under his stewardship.
