ICICI Bank appointed former bureaucrat Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as its non-executive part-time chairman. Chaturvedi is a 1977-batch IAS officer of UP cadre, who retired as the Oil Secretary in January 2013.

The appointment will be effective July 1 or the day the Reserve Bank of India grants approval, whichever is later. The term of M K Sharma, the current chairman of ICICI Bank, ends on June 30.

The board also appointed Chaturvedi as an additional (independent) director effective July 1 for three years, subject to shareholder approval.
