The Modi government has given its approval for an extension in the service tenure of Vinay Mohan Kwatra (IFS:1988), appointing him to continue serving as Foreign Secretary for an additional six months, concluding on October 31, 2024. The Personnel Ministry order officially confirmed this directive. Notably, this marks the second extension for Kwatra.
In a prior decision on November 28, 2022, the government had granted a 16-month extension to Kwatra, allowing him to continue in service beyond his original date of superannuation on December 31, 2022. Vinay Mohan Kwatra assumed the role of Foreign Secretary on May 1, 2022, succeeding Harsh Vardhan Shringla. His extended term is now slated to conclude on April 30, 2024.
