The exercise for appointing a new DGP in Chhattisgarh has intensified as the tenure of the current DGP Ashok Juneja (IPS:1989:CG) is expiring on February 3, 2025. Juneja was due to retire on July 4, 2024, but he was given a six-month extension.
A panel of three names was sent by the state government to the UPSC for the selection of the new DGP. It included the names of Pawan Dev (IPS:1992:CG), Arun Dev Gautam (IPS:1992:CG) and Himanshu Gupta (IPS:1994:CG). According to the information, the UPSC has returned the panel sent by the state government raising the question over the inclusion of only three names in it. It is now being learnt that the state government will be sending a new panel after the amendment to the UPSC.
As per rules, there should be five names in the panel. If the number of DG rank officers in the state is not 5, then the names of ADG rank officers should be included and the panel should be sent.
According to sources, the state government will now send the names of five IPS officers to the panel this time. Apart from Pawan Dev, Arun Dev Gautam and Himanshu Gupta, two additions will be Gurjinder Pal Singh (IPS:1994:CG) and Shivram Prasad Kalluri (IPS:1994:CG).
