Senior IAS officer Pratyay Amrit (IAS:1991:BH) was on Tuesday appointed as the new Home Secretary of Bihar. The Election Commission has approved Amrit’s name as the new Home Secretary of the state. Amrit, an Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) rank officer, previously served in the Health Department with additional responsibilities in the Road Construction and Disaster Management Departments.
Prior to Amrit’s appointment, Dr. S Siddharth (IAS:1991:BH) held the position of ACS, Home, alongside additional duties as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, CM Secretariat, and ACS, Cabinet Secretariat.
This decision came after the Election Commission directed six states on Monday to remove home secretaries who held concurrent roles in their respective chief minister’s offices. This directive aimed to prevent conflicts of interest, especially with the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections now in effect.
