Senior IAS officer Deepak Kumar (IAS:1990:UP) was on Tuesday (19.03.2024) appointed as the new Home Secretary of Uttar Pradesh. The Election Commission has approved Kumar’s name as the new Home Secretary of the state. He is Additional Chief Secretary rank officer.
Kumar already held the charge of the Departments of Finance, Institutional, Finance & External Aided Project Deptt. & Commissioner, Finance. Now, he has also the charge of Home, Gopan, Visa Passport, Jail and Vigilance.
Senior IAS officer Sanjay Prasad (IAS:1995:UP), who is associated with the Chief Minister and is also holding the charge of the Information Department, was also looking after the Home Department presently.
Deepak Kumar was shortlisted along with two other IAS officers Sports Principal Secretary Alok Kumar-II (IAS:1993:UP) and PWD Principal Secretary Ajay Chauhan (IAS:1998:UP) for the Home Secretary’s post. The Election Commission finally chose Deepak Kumar.
On Monday, EC had directed six states to remove the home secretaries who also held charge in the respective CM’s office. This was done to avoid conflict of interest since the model code of conduct for Lok Sabha has come into effect.
