Senior IPS officer Ajay Kumar Singh (IPS:1989:JH), currently serving as Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Jharkhand Police Housing Corporation Limited, Ranchi, has been appointed as Director General of Police (DGP) on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the Election Commission directed the Jharkhand government to remove acting DGP Anurag Gupta (IPS:1990:JH) and hand over charge to the senior-most DGP officer available in the cadre immediately. The state government was asked to comply with the order by 7 pm today, and Ajay Kumar Singh was subsequently appointed to the role.
Anurag Gupta had been appointed acting DGP by the state government in July.
