A high-level committee engaged with distribution of the assets and liabilities of the erstwhile Jammu & Kashmir state, has sought more time from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to submit its report. The committee has to distribute the assets and liabilities between Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

The committee headed by former defence secretary Sanjay Mitra was supposed to submit its report within six months, by March 8, but the panel could not complete its mandate within stipulated time-frame.

According to the sources, “The MHA is examining what legal changes are to be affected for extending term of the committee”.

The panel has already submitted its interim recommendations on distribution of assets and liabilities to MHA.
