Senior IPS officer Vijay Kumar (IPS: 1997: AGMUT) has been appointed as Special Commissioner of Police, Armed Police, Delhi, on Friday. He has been assigned to this role upon his arrival from Jammu & Kashmir to the national capital.

Notably, the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued his transfer orders on January 9, moving him from Jammu & Kashmir to the Delhi segment of the AGMUT cadre, where he was serving as ADGP, Law & Order. The Jammu & Kashmir government relieved him of his charge on January 30 to enable him to take up his new assignment in Delhi.

A decorated officer with multiple gallantry medals, Kumar is known for his extensive focus on counter-terrorism operations during his tenure as IG and ADGP in Kashmir. He has primarily served in conflict-prone regions such as Pulwama, Awantipora, Kulgam, and Anantnag.
