COVID 19 : 2 Delhi Govt officers suspended, 2 others served with show cause notices

The Centre suspended two Delhi government officers and served show cause notice to two others for “serious lapses” in duty during the ongoing lockdown.

“These officers have failed to ensure public health and safety during the lockdown restrictions to combat COVID-19. Due to the serious lapse in performance of their duties, the competent authority has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the officers,” a Home Ministry spokesperson stated.

While Renu Sharma (IAS:1988:AGMUT), Additional Chief Secretary (Transport) and Rajeev Verma (IAS:1992:AGMUT), Principal Secretary, Finance have been suspended, Satya Gopal (IAS:1988:AGMUT), Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Land Buildings Departments, and Ajay Kumar Arora (DANICS), SDM Seelampur, have been served with showcause notices and asked to respond.

The Home Ministry actions came hours after the Delhi police filed FIRs over 44 DTC buses loaded with migrant labourers heading to the Delhi/UP border at Anand Vihar. The FIR indicated that the buses were deployed on the orders of Delhi government officials.
