Providing great relief to the senior IPS officer GP Singh, the Chhattisgarh High Court has quashed all three FIRs filed against him in connection with disproportionate assets, extortion, and sedition. The IPS officer belongs to the 1994-batch and the FIR had been registered after a lapse of six years in the extortion matter.
A division bench of the HC comprising Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal quashed all the three FIRs. The bench quashed the FIRs as the person from whom a 1 kg gold bar was seized was not made an accused in the case filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further, the scooty from which the gold bar was recovered was not registered in the name of GP Singh.
Similarly, in the sedition case, the videography provided by the Anti- Corruption Bureau did not prove that GP Singh was tearing the paper
containing seditious contents. Besides, the original documents were never produced before the court.
The legal team of the officer contended that he was victim of political machinations hatched by the previous administration.
