Chandigarh to have a new finance secretary soon, Kumar Rahul frontrunner for post

With the three-year deputation term of Chandigarh finance secretary A K Sinha set to be over in August, the Punjab government has forwarded names of three senior IAS officers, to be considered for the top post, to the Chandigarh administration.

According to administration officials, 2000 batch Punjab cadre IAS Kumar Rahul is the frontrunner for the post. Kumar is the senior-most IAS officer recommended by the state government panel.

The other two officers named in the panel include 2002 batch IAS officer Vijay Namdeorao Zade and 2004 batch IAS officer Arun Sekhri. The Punjab government in a note said that the three were selected on multiple criteria, including seniority, work experience and their past performance.

The UT administrator will select one of the three officers and recommend for approval to the central government.    

Finance secretary is the third most important post in the administration after adviser and home secretary.
