The new rules for appointing officers for 122 posts of Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have been notified by the central government. The number of officers on deputation from services other than the Indian Police Service (IPS) has been increased from 15 to 18.
The new rules enable CBI to induct more SPs from non-police organisations on deputation. According to the rules, half of the SP-level posts in the CBI will be filled by officers on deputation, while the remaining will be filled through promotion.
These rules pave way for the induction of IPS officers, officers of All India Services, Central Police Organisations, Central Government organised Group ‘A’ Services, and the State or Union Territory Police Organizations on deputation in the CBI.
According to an official, the number of officers from services other than the IPS earmarked for deputation should not exceed a maximum limit of 18. Earlier, the rules allowed 20 per cent of the 75 deputation posts (which is 15) to be filled by officers other than IPS, while the remaining were to be filled through promotion.
The maximum age limit for appointment through deputation is 56 as on the closing date of receipt of applications, the rules said.
