The central government has approved the suspension of three Karnataka-cadre IPS officers—B Dayananda (IPS:1994:KN), Vikas Kumar Vikas (IPS:2004:KN), and Shekhar H Tekkannavar (IPS:2014:KN)—in connection with the M Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede that killed 11 people and injured several others during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations in the IPL 2025 season.

The approval follows a recommendation by the Karnataka government, which cited dereliction of duty and lapses in crowd control by the officers. The state had submitted a detailed report to the Centre, which has now formally endorsed the suspension and conveyed its approval to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the officers will be charge-sheeted within 30 days, as part of the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the state.
