Centre appoints senior IFS officers as Joint Secretaries to handle Pak, Nepal and US

The ministry of external affairs has cleared three senior IFS officers to join as joint secretaries to handle diplomatic dialogue with hostile neighbors Pakistan and Nepal and manage key issues with US administration.

1995 batch IFS officer Arindam Bagchi is set to head the northern division of MEA, which handles Bhutan and Nepal affairs, while 2002 batch IFS officer JP Singh, will handle Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran (PAI) division.

1996 batch IFS officer Sandeep Chakravorty will take over as joint secretary AMS (Americas) division. The AMS division handles all issues related to the US and Canada.

While Bagchi has held important postings as India’s ambassador to Croatia, Singh has served as India’s consul general in New York and Istanbul.
