In a major bureaucratic reshuffle on Friday, the central government appointed four new secretaries to the Ministry of Finance, bringing the ministry to its full sanctioned strength of six secretaries. The appointments were cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
The current Civil Aviation Secretary, Vumlunmang Vualnam, has been shifted to the Finance Ministry as the new Expenditure Secretary.
Vualnam is a 1992 batch IAS officer of Manipur cadre.
Arvind Shrivastava, currently posted as Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister Office (PMO), has been deputed as the new Revenue
Secretary. A 1994 batch IAS officer, Shrivastava belongs to the Karnataka cadre.
Anuradha Thakur, another 1994 batch IAS officer, will take charge as the new Economic Affairs Secretary in the Finance Ministry on July 1, after the current incumbent retires. During this intervening period, this Himachal cadre bureaucrat will be acting as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Economic Affairs Department. She is presently serving as Additional Secretary in the Corporate Affairs Ministry.
Both Shrivastava and Thakur will be succeeding Ajay Seth, currently posted as Finance Secretary. Before his appointment, Seth was doubling up as Revenue Secretary as well as Economic Affairs Secretary, and is superannuating on June 30.
The fourth person to man the Finance Ministry as Secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises is K Moses Chalai. Currently posted as the Secretary in the Inter State Council Secretariat under Home Ministry, he belongs to the 1990 batch IAS officer of Manipur cadre. The post of Secretary in the Public Department has been lying vacant for a long time.
Apart from these four, M Nagaraju (Financial Services) and Arunish Chawla (DIPAM) are other two secretaries, thus completing the Finance Ministry’s full strength of six secretaries.
