The CBI has asked Satara district aurthorities not to release without its nod the controversial Wadhawan brothers- promoters of DHFL. The Wadhawans were detained on Thursday after they travelled to Mahabaleshwar during lockdown.

The Wadhawans are currently kept in quarantine in Panchgani in Satara district of Maharashtra. Their travel was allegedly facilitated by Maharashtra’s Principal Secretary (Special) Amitabh Gupta. Gupta has been sent on leave and a probe has been ordered against him.

Wadhawans were absconding ever since CBI named them as accused in the Yes bank scam, and non-bailable warrants (NBWs) were issued against them.

The CBI has alleged that Wadhawans had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Rana Kapoor of Yes Bank for seeking financial assistance to DHFL, in return for substantial undue benefits to Kapoor and his family members.

DHFL is already under a separate probe for allegedly siphoning off Rs 31,000 crore out of total bank loans of Rs 97,000 crore, using shell companies.
