The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has undertaken a fresh reshuffle of responsibilities amongst its members placing the investigation wing under the direct supervision of the Chairman.

The CBDT, an apex body that supervises the income-tax department’s work in the country, is headed by a chairman and can have six members in the rank of special secretary. The fresh reshuffle was necessitated due to a vacancy of two members on the board.

According to the official order, issued on September 24, current CBDT Chairman Ravi Agrawal (IRS-IT:1988) will be in overall control of “Coordination and Supervision” of the board’s work including Investigation.

Earlier there was an independent post of Member (Investigation), but the post was abolished last year and the Chairman was authorised with the “supervision of the work of investigation”.

Similarly, Harinder Bir Singh Gill (IRS-IT:1987) will be the Member (Taxpayer Services and Revenue). He will also be holding the additional charge of Member (Systems and Faceless Services).

Sanjay Kumar (IRS-IT:1988) will be in the charge of Member (Audit and Judicial), besides the additional charge of Member (Income Tax).

Prabodh Seth (IRS-IT:1989) will be the Member (Administration) and Ramesh Narain Parbat (IRS-IT:1989), belonging to the same batch, will be the Member (Legislation).

The order has also earmarked zonal charges for these officers.
