CBDT: 87 IRS officers empanelled for Principal Commissioner roles in Income Tax Department

The Modi government on Tuesday approved the empanelment of 87 IRS (Indian Revenue Service) officers to hold the post of Principal Commissioner in the Income Tax department. These officers will be placed in Level 15 in the Pay Matrix for the panel year 2023. Additionally, eight officers are listed in the ‘extended panel.’ Notably, Shamsundar M Keshkamat was denied empanelment for the panel year 2023, and nine junior officers are slated to serve on an ad-hoc basis.

The Extended Panel is to be activated if officers recommended in the main or extended panel are unavailable for promotion due to being away on deputation or opting for voluntary retirement during the year 2023.

Shamsundar M Keshkamat has not been empanelled for promotion to the grade of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in the Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax) for the panel year 2023. The recommendations of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for certain officers have been kept in ‘sealed covers’ for the panel year 2023. Consequently, the promotion of nine junior-most officers will be on an ad-hoc basis until the ‘sealed cover’ cases are resolved or until subsequent regular vacancies in the grade arise, whichever comes earlier.
