Busy bureaucrats of Andhra Pradesh want to relax on weekends by watching regional movies. They have expressed their desire through the IAS Officers Association which has requested Telugu film producers to arrange private screenings of new Telugu movies for them and their families. The request has been made as busy bureaucrats hardly find time to book tickets and visit theatre for regular screenings.

So, they have devised an alternative to get these screenings hosted at a mini-theatre built in Vijayawada. This theatre may house as many as 48 persons.

T Prasanna Kumar, General Secretary of the Telugu Film Producers Council, has confirmed receiving the request from the Andhra Pradesh State Film and Television Development Corporation and the IAS Officers Association. Though no decision has been taken, Kumar said they are open to discussing the proposal.

A section of Film producers treats it as a positive sign and support the idea citing the ongoing interactions between filmmakers and government officials for various approvals.

A leading producer pointed out that new Telugu films are often screened for officials in Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi and in the home theatres of VIPs in Hyderabad. Further, with the rise of digital platforms, such screenings are more convenient. He said that star-studded films are released on Thursdays and Fridays, and Sunday screenings for officials could work well.

This is not the first time that it will happen if the proposal is accepted. In the past as well a film’s print was kept with the Film Development Corporation (FDC) for up to a month. Now, with digital access, films can be sent via a secure link.
