Sanjay Kumar Mishra (IRS-IT:1984), the current Director of the Enforcement Directorate, is set to conclude his tenure today, as per the Supreme Court’s directive. The anticipation for the next Director of the country’s foremost investigation agency is mounting, with several names emerging as potential candidates. According to well-placed sources within the finance ministry, there is a possibility that the next Director could be selected from among the current officers serving in the Enforcement Directorate. While the specific officer’s identity remains undisclosed, a closer look at the agency’s current senior officers reveals that there are presently seven officers holding the position of Special Director in the ED. It is widely speculated that one of these individuals could be appointed as the agency’s next Director.
Among these officers, the most senior is Rahul Navin, an IRS officer from the 1993 batch. He currently holds the dual roles of Special Director at Headquarters and Chief Vigilance Officer within the ED. This dual responsibility has led to strong speculation that Rahul Naveen may be chosen to assume the position of ED Director.
While the power corridors are abuzz with speculation about the potential candidates for the next Director of the Enforcement Directorate, there is a cautious undertone. This caution arises from the awareness that the current government has a tendency to spring surprises by appointing individuals who are not part of the widely discussed speculations. Therefore, despite the discussions surrounding probable candidates, the final decision remains uncertain, and the government’s history of unexpected appointments keeps everyone on their toes.
