NHAI inks agreement to develop Mega Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Bengaluru

The National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NHAI, has entered into a pivotal agreement for the development of a Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Bengaluru. This landmark project is set to be executed under the Public Private Partnership (DBFOT) model with an estimated investment of Rs 1,770 crore. The agreement has been formally executed among the Government Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Bengaluru MMLP Pvt. Ltd., and the Concessionaire SPV, M/s. PATH Bengaluru Logistics Park Pvt. Ltd.

Spanning an expansive 400-acre area in Muddelinganahalli, Bengaluru rural district, Karnataka, this MMLP project is poised to emerge as the country’s first and largest MMLP initiative under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The MMLP’s strategic location is a key feature, situated adjacent to the upcoming KIADB industrial area on the east side, bordering NH 648 (Dabbaspet to Hosur) and the Satellite Town Ring Road to the north. Additionally, it lies in proximity to the Bengaluru – Hubli – Mumbai rail line on the south side. The Bengaluru MMLP is positioned 58 km away from Bengaluru Airport and 48 km from Bengaluru city railway station, ensuring convenient access.

The development of the MMLP will unfold in three distinct phases, with the first phase anticipated to reach completion within two years. Over the concession period of 45 years, the MMLP is expected to handle approximately 30 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo, significantly boosting industrial zones in the catchment region, including Bengaluru and Tumkur.

To facilitate this monumental project, a Government Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) has been established, uniting key entities such as National Highways Logistics Management Ltd. (NHLML), Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), and Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

The development of the MMLP aligns closely with the Government of India’s strategic initiative to enhance the nation’s freight logistics sector. It aims to accomplish this by optimizing intermodal freight movement to reduce overall freight costs and transit times, enhancing warehousing capabilities, improving consignment tracking and traceability, and ultimately bolstering the overall efficiency of India’s logistics sector.
