The Modi government on Friday (19:01.2024) cleared the empanelment of 31 IAS officers of the 2007 batch for holding Joint Secretary or Joint Secretary Equivalent posts in the Government of India.
The Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday made recommendations for the appointment of several judges. The Collegium proposed the elevation of five Additional Judges in the Calcutta High Court, along with the confirmation of one Additional Judge each from the Jharkhand High Court and the Kerala High Courtas Permanent Judges.
According to a statement released on the apex court’s website, the Collegium suggested the appointment of Justices Shampa Dutt (Paul) and Raja Basu Chowdhury as Permanent Judges of the Calcutta High Court. Additionally, it recommended Justice Lapita Banerjee for a Permanent Judgeship in the same court, filling a current vacancy.
In a separate communication, the Collegium announced the recommendation of Permanent Judgeships for Justices Ananya Bandyopadhyay and Rai Chattopadhyay in the Calcutta High Court. Furthermore, Justice Subhendu Samanta is proposed to be appointed as an Additional Judge for a renewed term of one year, effective from May 18, 2024.
The Collegium disclosed that a committee of two Judges from the Supreme Court, appointed by the Chief Justice of India, thoroughly reviewed the judgments of the Additional Judges. After careful evaluation, the committee affirmed their suitability for confirmation as Permanent Judges.
In another announcement, the Supreme Court Collegium put forth the endorsement of Justice Shoba Annamma Eapen as a Permanent Judge for the Kerala High Court, addressing an existing vacancy. The Collegium stated that it consulted with Judges from the Supreme Court familiar with the affairs of the Kerala High Court to determine Justice Eapen’s suitability based on the Memorandum of Procedure.
Concluding its recommendations, the Collegium, through a separate statement, proposed the appointment of Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, currently serving as an Additional Judge, as a Permanent Judge for the High Court of Jharkhand, filling one of the current vacancies.

KK Pathak (IAS:1990:BH), the Additional Chief Secretary of the Bihar Education Department, has submitted a request for an extension of his leave until January 31. Chief Secretary Aamir Subhani confirmed that Pathak, whose initial leave period concluded on Tuesday, has sought an extension from January 16 to January 31. This development has reignited speculation within the power corridors of Patna, speculating the potential appointment of a new Additional Secretary in the Education Department to replace KK Pathak. However, there is no official confirmation regarding his replacement at this point.
Assuming the role of Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department in June 2023, KK Pathak initially applied for earned leave from January 8 to January 14. Subsequently, he sought an extension until January 16.
