Centre notifies appointment of Chief Justices of 7 different HCs

The Union government on Friday notified the appointment of Chief Justices for various High Courts across the country.

The newly appointed Chief Justices are as follows:

  1. Justice S Vaidyanathan, Judge of the Madras High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
  2. Justice Arun Bhansali, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court.
  3. Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.
  4. Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Judge of the Patna High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
  5. Justice Ritu Bahri, a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.
  6. Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, currently serving as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, is slated to become the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.
  7. Justice Gurmeet Singh Sandhawalia, a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, is recommended to take over as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. This appointment will be effective from the date Justice Ritu Bahri relinquishes the charge of Acting Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, following her elevation as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court.

These appointments follow the resolution of the Supreme Court Collegium, which includes Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justice BR Gavai, recommending these distinguished judges to assume the role of Chief Justices in their respective high courts. The Collegium’s decisions play a vital role in ensuring a rigorous and transparent selection process for such crucial judicial appointments.

Odisha: Senior IPS officer B Radhika takes VRS

The Odisha government has given its nod to the voluntary retirement request of B Radhika (IPS:1989:OD), a prominent contender for the position of Director General of Police (DGP) in the state.

Having recently assumed the role of Chairperson of the State Police Recruitment Board and simultaneously served as the Director of the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Odisha, on an additional charge basis upon returning from central deputation, B Radhika has been granted approval for her voluntary retirement.

The government has shown flexibility by relaxing the mandatory three-month notice period for her retirement, citing her need to care for her parents. Notably, B Radhika was initially set to retire in July.

Makrand Deoskar appointed as IG in Border Security Force

Makrand Deoskar (IPS:1997:MP) has recently been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force (BSF) for a tenure of five years.

As per an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday (30.01.2024), the competent authority has approved the appointment of Mr. Deoskar to the post. The tenure is set for five years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
