The Gujarat government on Tuesday (13.08.2024) relieved IAS officer Varunkumar Jagdish Baranwal (IAS:2014:GJ) from his charge as Collector of Banaskantha-Palanpur and placed his services at the disposal of Government of India for his appointment as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, for four years.
In his place, Mihir Pravinkumar Patel (IAS:2015:GJ) has been appointed as new Collector of Banaskantha-Palanpur. Prior to this, Baranwal was serving as Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Ahmedabad.
The Union government on Monday (12.08.2024) notified the appointment of two Advocates as Additional Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court. They have been appointed for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.

The Supreme Court collegium on July 30 approved the proposal to elevate these names as Additional Judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court and sent the recommendations to the President.

Sipan Kumar Garg, Additional General Manager, NTPC Ltd., has been appointed as Director (Finance), THDC India Limited, for five years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Monday (12.08.2024), the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet as approved the appointment of Mr. Garg to the post for five years with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders.
On March 19, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) recommended Garg’s name to the ACC for the position of Director (Finance) at THDC India Limited after interviewing 9 candidates.
The Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Veera Rana (IAS:1988:MP), who is on six months extension, is set to retire on September 30. Consequently, the new Chief Secretary will assume the role before the end of the month.

Among these candidates, Anurag Jain and Rajesh Kumar Rajora are considered the top contenders. Anurag Jain is currently on central deputation, serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways while Rajesh Kumar Rajora is Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Mohammed Suleman is the Agriculture Production Commissioner, while Ashish Upadhyaya has been on central deputation since 2018 and currently serves as Secretary of the National Commission for Backward Classes. Vinod Kumar is the Director of the Tribal Research and Development Institute (TRI) in Bhopal, and Jai Narayan Kansotiya is the Director General of the RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration and Management in Bhopal.
If the Union government repatriates Anurag Jain to parent cadre and endorses him for the top bureaucratic post, the state government may have little choice but to appoint him. However, if the Chief Secretary is picked among the officers serving in MP, Rajesh Kumar Rajora is seen as the frontrunner. His recent appointment as Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, coupled with the fact that he has three years until retirement in 2027, makes him a strong candidate for ensuring stability in the administration.
The Punjab government on Monday appointed three new State Information Commissioners.
They are;

On July 18, the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the Punjab government to file a status report over the non-appointment of state information commissioners.
The order was issued in response to a plea that claimed the Punjab State Information Commission had not appointed commissioners for the last three years. As per plea the last information commissioner was appointed in July 2021.
The commission worked in its full strength till September 2021 and subsequently all the 10 seats got vacant as all of them retired. But fresh appointments were not made, the plea states that the last working information commissioner, Asit Jolly retired on July 9, 2024, leaving behind only the chief information commissioner Inderpal Singh for adjudication of pending appeals and complaints.
Mayank Joshi (IFS:2003), presently High Commissioner of India to Jamaica, has been concurrently accredited as the next High Commissioner of India to the Cayman Islands, with residence in Kingston. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday (12.08.2024) relieved senior IAS officers Devesh Chaturvedi (IAS:1989:UP) for central deputation and placed his services at the disposal of Government of India to enable him to take up his new assignment as Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
He was serving as Agriculture Production Commissioner; Additional Chief Secretary, Appointment & Personnel; Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture, Agriculture Education & Research Deptt. & Agriculture Marketing Agriculture Foreign Business & Export Promotion Deptt and DG Training, Lucknow.
Notably, he was recently appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare on August 6.
