Garima Kapoor appointed as Deputy Secretary in Department of Financial Services

Garima Kapoor (ISS:2015), who was recommended for central deputation by the M/o Statistics & Programme Implementation, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Delhi for four years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (14.08.2024), the central government appointed Ms. Kapoor to the post for four years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Shilpa Rao Tenugula appointed as Director in M/o Information and Broadcasting

Shilpa Rao Tenugula (IPoS:2010), who was recommended for central deputation by the Department of Posts, has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for five years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (14.08.2024), the central government appointed Ms. Tenugula to the post for five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Govind Mohan appointed next Union Home Secretary

Senior IAS Govind Mohan (IAS:1989:SK) was on Wednesday (14.08.2024) appointed as next Union Home Secretary. He will replace Ajay Kumar Bhalla (IAS:1984:AM), whose extend tenure as Home Secretary is set to expire on August 22, 2024.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), ” The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Govind Mohan, IAS (SK:89), Secretary, Ministry of Culture as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs with immediate effect. The officer will take over as Home Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs vice Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, IAS (AM: 84) on completion of his tenure on 22.08.2024,”.

Mohan is presently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Culture since October 2021 and had two stints in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in the past.

Ajay Bhalla appointed as Union Home Secretary in August 2019 and remained on the post for almost half a decade.

IRS Rohit Raj appointed Director in M/o Civil Aviation

Rohit Raj (IRS-IT:2008), who was recommended for central deputation by the Department of Revenue, has been selected for appointment as Director in the Ministry of Civil Aviation for five years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (14.08.2024), the competent authority has approved the appointment of Mr. Raj to the post under the central staffing scheme for five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Anugraha P appointed Deputy Secretary in D/o Pharmaceuticals

Anugraha P (IAS:2011:MP) has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Delhi, for four years. According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Wednesday (14.08.2024), the competent authority has approved the appointment of Ms Anugraha to the post under the central staffing scheme for four years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Rahul Navin appointed full-time Director of ED

The central government on Wednesday (14.08.2024) appointed acting Chief of Enforcement Directorate (ED) Rahul Navin (IRS-IT:1993) as full-time Director of the federal Anti-Money laundering agency for two years.

According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, ” The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Rahul Navin, IRS (IT:93074), Special Director, ED as Director of Enforcement in the Directorate of Enforcement for a period of two years with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,”

Rahul Navin took charge as the acting director of the ED in September last year when Supreme Court held the repeated extensions to Sanjay Kumar Mishra as the Director of ED illegal.

SC collegium recommends 3 Advocates as Judges of Gujarat HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of three Advocates as Judges of the Gujarat High Court. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Collegium held on August 13, 2024.

The names of the Advocates are;

  1. Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker,
  2. Deeptendra Narayan Ray @ D N Ray
  3. Maulik Jitendra Shelat

Additionally, the SC Collegium has decided to remit the proposal for the appointment of Advocate Tejal Vashi as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court, recommending that the Chief Justice of the High Court reconsider her name alongside other eligible candidates in the future.

SC Collegium recommends 9 Additional Judges of Allahabad HC to be Permanent

The Supreme Court Collegium Tuesday (13.08.2024) recommended the names of nine Additional Judges of the Allahabad High Court to be made permanent of that court.

They are;

  1. Justice Syed Qamar Hasan Rizvi
  2. Justice Manish Kumar Nigam
  3. Justice Anish Kumar Gupta
  4. Justice Nand Prabha Shukla
  5. Justice Kshitij Shailendra
  6. Justice Vinod Diwakar
  7. Justice Prashant Kumar
  8. Justice Manjive Shukla
  9. Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal

After reviewing all the relevant materials and considering various aspects, the Collegium found them suitable for appointment as Permanent Judges.

SC Collegium recommends two Additional Judges of Andhra Pradesh HC to be Permanent

The Supreme Court Collegium Tuesday (13.08.2024) recommended the names of two Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court to be made permanent of that court.

They are;

  1. Justice Venkata Jyothirmai Pratapa
  2. Justice Venuthurumalli Gopala Krishna Rao

After reviewing all the relevant materials and considering various aspects, the Collegium found them suitable for appointment as Permanent Judges.

UP: 55 applicants for UPSSSC Chairmanship; Sanjeev Mittal & Mahesh Kumar Gupta emerge as frontrunners

Who will be the next Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC)? So far, 55 applicants have applied for the position. Among them, three prominent names stand out: Former Additional Chief Secretaries Sanjeev Mittal (Retd. IAS:1987:) and Mahesh Kumar Gupta (Retd. IAS:1987:UP), along with current UPSSSC member Professor Akhand Pratap Singh.

Sources indicate that Sanjeev Mittal and Mahesh Kumar Gupta are the frontrunners for the role.

The post of UPSSSC Chairman became vacant on July 11 when the incumbent Chairman, Praveen Kumar (Retd. IAS:1982:UP), resigned due to health reasons. Kumar, who was appointed in December 2019, was expected to serve until December 2024 but stepped down earlier.

Following his resignation, the commission’s senior member, ON Singh, was appointed as the acting Chairman.

UPSSSC conducts recruitment examinations for Group C and D posts in the state.
