The appointment of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Chairperson is on the horizon as the selection committee, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, has recommended the name of former IPS Jatinder Aulakh (IPS:1997:PB). The file has been forwarded to the Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit for approval. Jatinder Aulakh, who retired as ADGP (intelligence) on January 31, 2023, is poised to take over the role.

The position of PPSC Chairman has been vacant since September of the previous year following the retirement of officiating Chairperson Jasmit Kaur Teji. Regular Chairman Jagbans Singh Power had superannuated in March of the same year, after which PPSC Member Teji assumed the role of officiating Chairperson.

The absence of a regular chairman has impeded the functioning of the Punjab Public Service Commission, leading to a halt in conducting exams and making new appointments. Thus far, the PPSC has deferred three exams due to the vacancy in the Chairman’s position.
