PNB reports Q2 net profit at Rs 620.81 crore, asset quality improves

Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Monday reported a net profit of Rs 620.81 crore for the July-September quarter.

During the same period last year, the bank had reported a net profit of Rs 507.05 crore. However, the merger of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India with PNB had not taken place then, so, the figures are not comparable, PNB said in a regulatory filing. The amalgamation came into effect on April 1 this year.

Its gross non-performing asset at the end of the quarter ended September stood at 13.43 per cent, compared to 16.76 per cent during the same period of the last financial year when the merger did not take place.

The state-run bank’s interest income during the period under review stood at Rs 20,945.84 crore.

BEML bags SKOCH award to contain Covid-19

BEML LIMITED, a Schedule ‘A’ Company under Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, received the prestigious SKOCH Award in Gold Category, for outstanding work in response to contain Covid-19 at an event at Delhi. Dr Deepak Kumar Hota, CMD, BEML received the award at a virtual award ceremony. SKOCH Foundation recognizes People, Project and Institutions that go the extra mile to make India a better nation.

To combat Covid-19, BEML implemented various standard operating procedures as advised by the government such as regular sanitisation, maintaining social distance and offering sanitisor at work places, distributing mask & medical kits through BEML Women’s Association. BEML also opened Covid Care Center for the employees and their families for the treatment of those affected by the virus.

BEML propagated good health practices by putting up hoardings, banners and other related information materials. Social Media platforms were used to spread awareness about precautionary measures to stay safe & healthy.

Apart of this, BEML through its Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) provided guidelines to break the chain of corona virus and to resume work in its plants and townships.The award was given to BEML on the evaluation of peer & Jury and number of votes received.

Minimum government, maximum governance : PMs mantra to IAS probationers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the IAS probationers, via video conferencing, advised them to take decisions in the national interest by following the mantra of ‘minimum government and maximum governance’. He was addressing from Kevadiya in Gujarat, where he also paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhai Patel on his 145th birth anniversary.

Modi told the probationers that they were entering the service at a crucial juncture when India is about to enter the 75th year of its Independence. He emphasized on a people friendly approach in governance as governments not only run on policies alone but on people who are real driving force and not just the receiver of the government’s policies and programmes.

He further advised the future bureaucrats to reduce their interference and ensure empowerment of common people.

He requested them to always take decisions in the national interest and meant to strengthen the unity and sovereignty of the country for keeping India’s constitutional spirit high.
