Bihar govt promotes 44 IPS officers; Kundan Krishnan elevated to DGP rank

Bihar government promotes 44 IPS officers across ranks with effect from January 1, 2026. Kundan Krishnan elevated to DGP rank.

The Bihar government on Tuesday (December 23, 2025) promoted 44 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of different batches to higher ranks and grades in a major cadre promotion exercise. These promotions will take effect from January 1, 2026.

The most significant promotion is that of senior IPS officer Kundan Krishnan (IPS:1994), who has been elevated to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). He is currently serving as Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters).

Among the promotions, one 2001-batch IPS officer, Shalin, has been promoted to the rank of Additional Director General of Police on a proforma basis as he is on central deputation.

Eight IPS officers of the 2008 batch have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General of Police. These include Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Kumar and Vivekananda, while Upendra Kumar Sharma, Satya Veer Singh, Vikash Burman, Kim and Nitasha Gudiya have received proforma promotion.

A total of 22 IPS officers of the 2012 batch have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police. The officers promoted include Avakash Kumar, Anand Kumar, Kumar Ashish, Raviranjan Kumar, Deepak Ranjan, Inamul Haque Manganu, Aamir Javed, Ashok Kumar Singh, Sanjay Kumar Singh, Rajiv Ranjan (I), Rakesh Kumar Sinha, Ajay Kumar Pandey, Neeraj Kumar Singh, Sushant Kumar Saroj, Rajiv Ranjan (II), Raman Kumar Chaudhary, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Shailesh Kumar Sinha, Satyanarayan Kumar, Ramashankar Rai, Sushil Kumar and Dilnawaz Ahmed.

Additionally, 12 IPS officers of the 2013 batch have been granted Selection Grade. These officers are Manish, Jagunath Reddy Jalareddy, Vishal Sharma, Upendra Nath Verma, Gaurav Mangala, D Amarkesh, Rakesh Kumar, Beena Kumari, Md Saifurrahman, Rajesh Kumar, Pankaj Kumar and Ashok Kumar Prasad.
