Union Coal Secretary Amrit Lal Meena (IAS:1989:BH) is likely to be appointed as the Chief Secretary of Bihar. Sources indicate that Meena is set to replace Brijesh Mehrotra (IAS:1989:BH), who is retiring on August 31. His repatriation order to parent cadre may be issued at any time.
If appointed, Meena will have one year tenure as Chief Secretary, with his retirement date set for August 31, 2025.
Besides Meena, four other contenders were in the running for the top bureaucratic position: Chaitanya Prasad (IAS:1990:BH), KK Pathak (IAS:1990:BH), S Siddharth (IAS:1991:BH), and Pratyay Amrit (IAS:1991:BH). However, it seems that Amrit Lal Meena is emerging as the likely choice.
Meena has been on central deputation since September 09, 2021, when the Bihar government relieved him for his assignment with the central government as Additional Secretary, (Logistics), Department of Commerce, Commerce and Industries Ministry.
