Prateek Hajela (IAS:1995:AM), the former NRC State Coordinator and an Assam-Meghalaya IAS cadre, has been granted voluntary retirement by the Assam Government with effect from August 1. The decision came with certain conditions, as there were allegations of financial irregularities concerning the NRC update. After careful examination and consultation with the Government of India, the State Government approved his VRS, putting an end to the speculations surrounding the matter. Hajela would have to appear as and when the police called him.

Hajela had been on Inter Cadre Deputation in the Madhya Pradesh Government for three years, and his request for further extension was not accepted, leading to his return to the parent cadre and the subsequent application for voluntary retirement.
