The Assam government on Saturday (18.03.2023) relieved IAS officer Laya Madduri (IAS:2010:AM) from the additional charge of Secretary, Cultural Affairs Department. She will now serve as the Secretary of, the Finance, and Science & Technology Departments.
The government’s order came after the 8th Assam State Film Awards gaffe, where nine checks given to several winners bounced a day later, putting the state government in an embarrassing position. The cheques were signed by the Director of Cultural Affairs, Rabindra Bhawan.

An inquiry was initiated by the government and it was clarified that the incident was caused by the bank’s delay. Winners have been asked to deposit their checks again and have been assured that the checks will be cleared.
Meanwhile, IAS officer Kalyan Chakravarthy (IAS:1995:AM), Principal Secretary, Labour Welfare, Skill, Employment & Entrepreneurship and Cooperation Departments and Chairman, State Level Recruitment Commission for Class-IV posts has been given additional charge of Principal Secretary, Cultural Affairs Department.
