Former Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar (IAS:1989:AP) has finally applied for Voluntary Retirement from Service (VRS) after reporting to the Andhra Pradesh government a month ago. Sources said that he has requested permission to go on VRS in a representation to Chief Secretary Dr. KS Jawahar Reddy (IAS:1990:AP). The proposal is most likely to be cleared after taking Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s approval.

Somesh Kumar reported to the AP government after the high court’s verdict on January 12. He met the Chief Secretary Dr. Jawahar Reddy and reported to duty. He had also met Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Interestingly, the state government did not assign him any tasks since he reported to duty.

According to sources, On the day he reported to work, Somesh Kumar hinted his plan to go on VRS both to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and to the Chief Secretary. Sources said that the state government had not assigned a post to Somesh, but only at his request.

Somesh Kumar is most likely to join as an advisor to the Telangana government.

Somesh Kumar had service till December 2023. He had already served as Chief Secretary of the Telangana government for nearly three years
