Senior IPS officer RP Thakur (IPS:1986:AP) assumed office as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) in Vijayawada on Monday. He took charge from Principal Secretary (Transport) MT Krishna Babu (IAS:1993:AP), who has been holding the additional charge as VC & MD of the APSRTC after senior IPS officer Madireddi Pratap (IPS:1990:AP) was relieved of the position in July 2020.
Thakur served as the DGP during the previous TDP regime. During the 2019 elections, the YSR Congress Party had lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the then DGP, alleging that he was favouring the ruling party. Soon after the YSRC came into power, the senior IPS officer was transferred and posted as Commissioner, Printing, Stationery and Stores Purchase.
The government on January 14 transferred Thakur as VC & MD of APSRTC.
